Travel for pleasure and recreation is one of the activities that I love best. Travel is also an incredible source of insight and inspiration, almost guranteed to enhance compassion and concern for other people and the state of the natural world. During recent travels I became sensitized to the issue of global warming and climate change. I want to write about some of travel experiences and insights and share them on these pages.
I also have a book project underway and will share progress in the blog section. The working title for the book is "PLanet Belize: Leaning into the Winds of Climate Change".
Arguably climate change and global warming are the most important issues facing humankind today, and will certainly bedevil all of us for generations to come. The objective is to combine my travel experiences with a background in science and technology to improve personal understanding of the problems and opportunities and to share those insights with others. I have no intention of trying to shout yet another warning- that has already been done very effectively though there are still many ostritches among us with heads firmly mired in the sands of denial. Neither denial nor doom and gloom gets us anywhere. The world may be damaged and at risk but is still an incredibly exciting wonderful place. Lets face the real issues head on, try our best to understand then do what people do best - accept the challenge and solve the problems.
Welcome to "Stan's environmental Travel" pages. Fasten your seat belts and let's boldly go...
Travel destinations in recent years have included;
An upcoming trip to northern Europe will include travel in Iceland and Norway including Svalbard in the high arctic. Travel outside North America has been with an excellent travel company called Civilized Adventures and often in association with the Conservation Outreach Program of the Calgary Zoo. Travel packages usually featured naturalist guides from Calgary and/or the travel destination.
My first article is called Hudson's Bay and Polar Bears. Travel to Hudson's Bay was with Classic Canadian Tours. The trip was guided by biologist and zookeeper, Les Stegenga.
